an indecorous alphabet

F is for Fridays

- I'm not sure I like "TGI Friday's".

- It's the enforced jollity that gets to me. All these people in red and white, covered with badges and emotional scars, grinning inanely whilst weeping metaphorical tears of rage at the indignity of it all.

- I was thinking more of the decor, as it happens, but the cruel and unusual punishment bit does it too.

- Look at this - a place mat advertising their Christmas parties, covered with photos of employees holding giant crackers and other holiday ephemera, boldly stating "I have lost all my self-esteem".

- "The authentic American restaurant". Except it isn't. Even "TGI Friday's" in America aren't this bad. Bad, but not like this.

- The neon signs, the random grab-bag of signs. It is to American restaurants what Irish theme pubs are to Irish pubs.

- They do good cocktails.

- Oh yes. They do do good cocktails.
